Statement of Faith

Worldview:

We believe that the Holy Bible (aka the Scriptures), comprising the Old and New Testaments, is our only infallible guide to know God and to live for Him. Further, that the Scriptures are the only way for discovering truth and the mind of God leading to wisdom and understanding of this world, and of the salvation from the wrath to come. We know that the truth of the Scriptures is seen in the created world, and in the transformation of those who believe in them. Our understanding of this world, therefore, is shaped by our comprehension of the Scriptures, and is attested to by the empirical evidence discoverable through the study of creation.

We believe in historic orthodox Christianity as faithfully witnessed in the Holy Scriptures which has been preserved down through the ages. We affirm the truth in the great creedal documents of the Christian Church: The Apostles Creed (c.5thC.), the Nicene Creed (AD. 381), and the Definition of Chalcedon (AD. 451). The Lord God has preserved His church down through the ages, and continues to do so.

God:

That there is a God, who is uncreated, and the Creator, Governor, and Judge of the world. That this God is but One only, the living and true God. That this God is eternally distinct from all creatures in his being and blessedness. That this God is eternally existent in three Persons in the Godhead: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. That this God has revealed Himself in the Holy Bible for us to know Him.

God the Father:

We believe that out of God’s great love He sent His only begotten Son to redeem a people unto himself. That through faith and belief in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ we become the adopted children of God by the blood of a New Covenant. That it is to God our Heavenly Father that we make petition, supplication, and requests by prayer through Christ Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God the Son:

We believe that Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God. That He took upon Himself the true nature of man in the incarnation. That His divine and holy nature, and His human nature are united in His person, yet ever remain true divinity and true humanity, unmixed, and as to their essence, unchanged. That Jesus, in His obedience to the will of God the Father, atoned for the sins of all who would believe in Him by being the sacrificial Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. That Jesus did indeed die as a propitiation for sin, was buried, and rose from the grave alive on the third day. That Jesus is the one and only mediator between God and mankind, and that there is no other name or method by which mankind can be saved from the judgement to come. We believe that Jesus has ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High, interceding on behalf of His people.

God the Holy Spirit:

We believe that the Holy Spirit is sent by both Father and Son; that His work is to comfort, guide, illumine, and bring life to those who are in Christ Jesus. That the Holy Spirit is at work in the life of the believer to help in his prayers and effect sanctification in his life. That without the Holy Spirit it is impossible to commune with God the Father.

Creation:

We believe that in the beginning it pleased God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for the manifestation of the glory of His eternal power, wisdom, and goodness, to created the world, and all things therein, whether visible or invisible, in the space of six literal days out of nothing (ex nihilo). After God had made all other creatures, He created man, male and female, with reasonable and immortal souls, rendering them fit for living a life to God for which they were created.

Man:

We believe that our first father Adam was our federal head and representative. He was created innocent, but through the temptation of Satan and his rebellion against the express Word of God, plunged himself and his entire posterity, represented in him, into the hopelessness of death in sin. By this mankind became unfit for living a life to God for which they were created. This sin is lawlessness—an attempt to live apart from the law and Word of God. Since that first great apostasy, no descendant of Adam has escaped from the physical death of lawlessness and the judgment of hell apart from efficacious grace.

We believe that all individuals who are without Christ Jesus follow after the inclinations of their own hearts, and that this is in contradiction to who God is. That it is only through the communication of the Gospel, the effectual work of the Holy Spirit, and the application of the finished work of Christ Jesus upon the cross that one is Born Again to a new and living hope. That it is only those who are truly Born Again who can joyfully and willingly follow the Law of Christ. That those who are Born Again will demonstrate their new life in Christ Jesus through changed attitudes and behaviour. That these attitudes and behaviour will be in accordance with the Scriptures showing forth the Fruit of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Marriage and Sexuality:

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God.

We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Teleios Classical Academy as a Christian ministry, and to provide a biblical role model to the students of Teleios Classical Academy and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by Teleios Classical Academy in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, or who attend as students, agree to and abide by this statement on Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality.

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Teleios Classical Academy.

Sanctity of Human Life:

We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including unborn babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

Government Oversight:

While we affirm and uphold all levels of Government, we hold ourselves accountable to God first and foremost. We will submit to the authority of those governing us in all matters pertaining to our civil liberties. We will treat them with respect and honour. Our goal is to honour Christ in all that we do; therefore, we will not compromise the Law of Christ, nor change the Scriptures to suit the time in which we live. All peoples will be judged according to the Word of God, and no one will be exempt from giving an account for what they did or believed while living on this earth.

Final Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct:

The statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a Christ-centred classical education to assist parents in maturing their children into life-long learners who live under the Lordship of Christ, seeing His truth, goodness and beauty in everything, and contributing eternally to the Kingdom of God.

Vision Statement

We aim to mature students who are equipped with knowledge and established in wisdom.  We aim to dispense knowledge through an educationally integrated approach that is practiced and applied through the lens of God’s revealed Word. We desire to equip students with the tools of learning, enabling them to think clearly and reason logically.  We aim to shape the whole student by also focusing on developing virtue and character as informed by scriptural principles. Ultimately, we aim to produce young men and women who acknowledge that all things are “from Him and through Him and to Him” and who are continually submitting all things under the Lordship of Christ.

We aim to partner with parents in their God-given mandate to train up their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.  We desire to have parents model a love for learning to their children as they embrace the classical philosophy of education.  We aim to have parents who excitedly desire to be involved in the education of their children at school as well as in the home.

We aim to have teachers who disciple students in the pursuit of wisdom and truth.  We desire that the teachers understand Classical, Christian education, and be trained in how to integrate it into the classroom.  We aim to have teachers who are dedicated to teaching and learning with excellence as unto the Lord, who not only love what they are teaching but also who they are teaching as they commit themselves to diligent work and to creating a loving classroom environment.

Finally, we aim to support the community of faith in Edmonton (and surrounding area) to intentionally fulfill our cultural mandate.  We desire to encourage families of the church to be a godly and effective influence in every sphere of their lives as they communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ clearly and persuasively in their homes, their networks, and their neighbourhoods.
